Need Help Getting Rid of Unwanted Pop-Up Windows

Sometimes, when I'm on certain sites using WebbIE or even IE, I'll get a message asking me if I want a pop-up window to open. I'll say no and then it'll open anyway. Then, I can't close it no matter what I do. And when I use WebbIE, this window opens in regular IE. Is there a way for me to get rid of these without having to reboot my machine? Even better, can I stop them completely?

Sure. Update your hosts file. Search that on google, and follow the instructions you find. That will stop most pop-ups completely. Also, if you use firefox, get addblock+.

Go into your settings for the internet and go to the pop-up blocker thing. You should be able to choose to allow all, allow only sites you approve, or allow no pop ups and that should take care of the problem. This works for regular IE and msn browsers, but most browsers have something similar.

Thanks. I could've sworn that I disabled popups but I'll check again. I like it where I can hit shift enter and open a separate window. Sometimes, that really comes in handy. But this machine isn't set up like that.

You could also have a rogue program. Run your virus cleaner.

I don't have one on that machine. It normally doesn't do it, only on certain sites. But thanks for the idea.

I hope to goodness you mean you don't have a rogue program on that machine, not that you don't have any anti-virus! Sheesh! Yeah, I'd install something like Avast if you're running Windows, the proffessional edition also has antispyware incorporated, so that's your best bet, and it will pop up a dialog warning box alerting you immediately if there is an undesirable program trying to load on your system.

Also, get a program called Trojan remover. Really good at removing Roag software. Anti-virus programs detect the Trojans, but they remove them, but not all the way. Trojan remover is accessible for the blind user in mind; easy-to-use interface, and you get a 30 day trial. Search for it on Google. Or go to simplesoft.com. If you want to know how to get the program up and running, PM me or or something like that. on here. It is made by a company in the UK. It is $19.95 for the first year, which allows you to install it on 3 PCS, and its $24 for subsequent years after that.
